As one of the newest VisiMax team members, what excites you most about joining the team?
I’m happy to be a part of a high-tech company with complicated machines and a complex optical coating process. Not many people in the world can do what we do.
In my role as Production Manager, I’ll use my specialties in Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing to further reduce lead times and consistently improve on-time delivery. Our role in production is more than just making quality coatings and filters. It’s critically tied to service and improving the entire experience for our customers and supply chain partners.
What specific lean manufacturing processes will help improve your team’s efficiency?
One of my major goals is to streamline processes around coating. I’m also working to further boost efficiency around cleaning and processing time. I’m using a data-driven approach to improve our internal processes. I’m drawing upon my expertise in SQL database systems to improve our scheduling and labor and material tracking. Mining the data we have and then presenting it in a clear and more organized way allows us to communicate clearly across the entire team.
How does VisiMax keep up with customer demands?
Our niche is delivering high-performance optical coatings and filters with short lead times. And as our customers’ specifications become more stringent, our equipment and our processes need to be ready. We’re excited to have another new coating chamber being installed this fall! As our customers continue to demand higher-performance optics and systems for use in instrumentation, lighting and aerospace and defense, we work hand in hand with them to deliver the performance they need. Anti-reflective coatings continue to be one of our core capabilities. Right now, we’re improving the durability of our optical coatings by honing deposition temperatures through statistical process control.
What’s the biggest impact you’d like to make at VisiMax?
I believe in servant-based leadership – in making people’s jobs easier by giving them the tools they need to be successful. The good ideas are already there from the people who work on the production floor. It’s my job to take those ideas and implement them. What’s really exciting is that our production team is working with Chris Murphy, our CEO, on longer-term strategic objectives. We have an important perspective on the future direction of our products and our company.
